The chief curator of ‘Blue Sun’ Mongolian Contemporary Art Center In 2020, during the restriction of the pandemic, Mongolian contemporary artists traveled about 50km out of Ulaanbaatar to Tuv province Sergelen soum area to Undur Dov in Khushig Valley. That’s where the M.A.R.S. is located. A local contemporary artist, Gawaa, established this residency space. ‘Urtuu Art Camp’ organized by ‘Blue Sun’ and curated by Yo. Dalkh-Ochir presented their land art, installations, sound, music, and public art. The project continued in Ulaanbaatar as a series of exhibitions in different districts at the ‘Blue Sun Gallery, ‘Khan Art Gallery,’ ‘Black Box Theatre,’ and ‘Red Ger Creative Space.’
Art historian Ariunaa Jargalsaikhan also participated in this art camp program and has written exciting articles reflecting on the participants' works, current tendencies, and needs in Mongolian contemporary arts.
In January 2021, the ‘Blue Sun’ art director Narbayasgalan Ulambayar initiated the ‘Hybrid Culture’ public media art program. Within the program's framework, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Arts curator John Wells and Japanese artist Satoshi Murakami were contacted for possible collaboration.
On March 27, 2021, the public media artworks of artists from around the world, reflecting on COVID-19, were presented at the ‘Mini Cinema’ initiated by the museum. Thus, the program gradually became a cultural exchange program. The program presented interesting locations and spaces for the viewers, including bridges, railway stations, power plants, ger districts of Ulaanbaatar, and streets of Japan, the UK, and France.
Also, the works of ‘hybrid Culture’ were invited to open the ‘Golden Ger’ international short film festival and were part of the ‘Ulaanbaatar’ international media art festival organized by the Arts Council of Mongolia; they had a joint presentation in various locations in Kanazawa and Kyoto cities of Japan.
