Between 1992 and 1997, the students of Nogoon Mori Mongolian Contemporary Art School were introduced to contemporary performance art by German artists Harun Volph and Treph. Following this initiative, they visited the Terelj and Gorkhi areas and explored their artwork in open areas throughout the vast Mongolian steppes.
Following the closure of the school, Mongolian artist Dalkh-Ochir and Swedish cultural worker Elin Hektor worked together to continue their previous initiatives and reorganize the ART CAMP International Project in 2003. Swedish, Finnish, Mongolian, English, and Japanese artists were involved in the 2004 project. The project has continued to build upon its visions and values.
Finish curator Anny Welinus led the Art Camp from 2008 to 2011, and for the first time, he organized it abroad in Stockholm, Sweden.
Mongolian and other international artists were involved in it.
The Call of Altai Art Camp Project, in partnership with Mongolian National TV, was held in 2015.
Blue Sun CACM's 20 members have traveled more than 3,000 kilometers and started creating TV content about Mongolian Contemporary Art in the land of authentic nomads.
During 2020-2022, Urtuu Art Camp, Bulag Art Camp, Ulaanbaatar International Media Art Festival, and Selenge Art Camp were organized. BLUE SUN CACM has continued its projects to keep the public's psyche optimistic despite the pandemic.
2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the ART CAMP International Project. We are excited to announce that we will be organizing the project with German artists in Bulgan Province for the 15th time to celebrate this anniversary.
Artists can visit Mongolia's vast land and experience the nomadic way of life, philosophy, lifestyle, and culture through ART CAMP, a unique international project. They are encouraged to create their own in the open space with the entire nature surrounding them. Also young Mongolian artists are able to experience their artwork and discover their unique working, concept, creation, and other techniques. As either a terminal or Biennial event for the Mongolian Wild Steppes, it is essential.
We are grateful and wish all those involved in the Art Camp International Project a happy 20th anniversary with joy.
